If You Like It, Say It

What I want to say today is very simple: If you like something, say it.

Compliment someone's outfit. Tell a friend you're proud of them. Tell a stranger you admire them. Thank your coworker for going the extra mile. Tell a blogger you like their post, or a photographer that you like their picture.

Whatever it is, spread positivity. Be encouraging and uplifting.

I am a person who tries hard, and so it feels nice when that's acknowledged. Especially as someone who creates things and puts them online, it takes time and effort and I often feel vulnerable when doing it. So when someone tells me they enjoy what I write, that they save pictures I post on Instagram, that they value my work or that they read a book I recommended, it's rewarding.

I know it's an incredibly cliché thing to say, but you don't know what a person is going through behind the scenes, so be kind. Do more than just hitting the "like" button. Be appreciative, and, more importantly, express it – whether it's to a close friend, an acquaintance, or a stranger from the Internet. As much as it may seem like one little comment from you won't make a difference, it can. A little goes a long way.

If you like something, say so.
