Goals For 2017

Sunday, January 1, 2017

For 2017, I'm picking a Word For The Year.

A single word that encompasses everything I want out of the next 12 months. Or rather, what I want from myself.

In 2017, I want to leap.

Leap into new opportunities. Leap into challenges. Leap into who-knows-what.

I want to take the jump, even if it scares me. Especially if it scares me. I don't have to do it fearlessly, I just have to do it.

Changes await me in this upcoming year. Some of them I already know, like the fact that I'll be moving in April, probably into a place with my boyfriend. Others will pop up unexpectedly.

That will be my focus. Leaping.

I also have three resolutions for 2017:

Be more involved

This is twofold: (1) Online. Read more blogs, interact with other writers, immerse myself a little more in the community. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll gain a few email pen pals. (Anyone interested?) And (2) in real life. Check in with friends, stay connected, go out.

Say what needs to be said

Because John Mayer had the right idea. It's better to say too much than never say it all. So when people make me feel good, I'll let them know. And when people make me feel not-so-good, I'll let them know that too.

Manage my stress better

Sometimes the source of my stress is out of my control, like a busy day at work. Other times, it's my own fault, and I let myself get (too) stressed over something small. Either way, I want to mitigate it. If I'm feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I want to take care of myself, whether that's by putting off household chores an extra day, skipping the gym, declining plans for a night in instead, whatever it may be.

Separate from my resolutions, there are a few other things I want to accomplish:

Continue reading. I didn't make this a resolution this time around because I feel confident enough that I'll keep up with it. My 2017 goal is 30 books.

Set up a work area. Whether it be in my current apartment or (more likely) my new place, I really want to get a desk and set up a cute work area for myself. I feel like having a space of my own specifically for writing and blogging would make me more productive.

Improve yoga poses. I want to work on headstands/handstands, and any that will open up my hips more, like figure four and wide angle seated forward bend.

I hope 2017 is great for you. Love your friends, speak your voice, and get some rest.
